Refugee Women Organization (REWO) is a refugee-led, women-led community-based organization dedicated to empowering refugee women, girls, and vulnerable communities through sustainable and transformative solutions.
Founded from lived refugee experience, REWO was established to address the challenges faced by refugee women and girls, including limited access to education, economic hardship, gender inequality, gender-based violence, and social exclusion. We work to amplify refugee voices, promote dignity, and create opportunities that enable individuals and communities to thrive.
Based in Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement in Yumbe District, Uganda, REWO works closely with refugee and host communities to design and implement community-driven programs that respond to real needs and create lasting impact.
Our work is guided by the belief that refugee women are not just beneficiaries of aid but powerful leaders, changemakers, and agents of transformation within their communities.
We focus on four key thematic areas:
Education
Promoting access to quality education, skills development, and mentorship opportunities for children, youth, and women.
Livelihood and Economic Empowerment
Supporting entrepreneurship, vocational skills training, financial inclusion, and income-generating opportunities.
Gender Equality and Protection
Advocating for women’s rights, preventing gender-based violence, and strengthening protection systems for vulnerable groups.
Environmental Protection
Promoting climate resilience, environmental conservation, and sustainable community practices.
Since our establishment, REWO has directly impacted over 7,000 beneficiaries and indirectly reached approximately 2,500 individuals through our programs and partnerships.
Through collaboration with local and international partners, we continue to champion resilience, inclusion, and sustainable development for refugee and host communities.
At REWO, we believe in transforming lived experiences into leadership, action, and hope for a better future.
